My name is Mohamed Camara, and I’m a Graphic Designer. As for who I am, I couldn’t tell you since I’m constantly discovering new things about myself. I like creating art when I feel inspired. My work ranges from various mediums, including digital art, illustrations, paintings, etc..
I don’t have a specific artist who inspires me because most of my creativity is fueled by music. Music gives me the energy to create, I listen to everything; except country... But if I had to choose one artist I like, it would be Jean-Michel Basquiat. I love how Basquiat’s art is so unique; it’s truly one of a kind. His style is tough to replicate, and if someone tries, it’s obvious where they drew their influence from. That inspires me because I feel I’m still searching for my artistic voice. I know there’s no such thing as a completely unique style since everything has been done before, but I want to create something that feels authentically mine.
When it comes to social issues, I believe in equal rights and fair treatment for everyone. I’m not really a protester, I prefer to keep it chill.
My Works:
On Photography - Susan Sontag
"Since there were then no professional photographers, there could not be amateurs either, and taking photographs had no clear social use; it was a gratuitous, that is, an artistic activity, though with few pretensions to being an art. "
"Photographs furnish evidence. Something we hear about, but doubt, seems proven when we're shown a photograph of it. In one version of its utility, the camera record incriminates"
I really like how Susan Sontag talks about both the positives and negatives of photography. Photos let us capture memories and keep them with us, almost like putting them in our pocket. They can show us the truth and have even been used as evidence in crime cases. But, photography is also an art form, which means it can be used in good or bad ways. Artists can use photos to tell a specific story or change them to make them more beautiful or dramatic. This creates a fine line between what’s real and what’s not. It’s kind of like how people today use filters on apps to slightly change how they look online. Some might see it as an innocent act, but others might feel it’s misleading. The only connection I could make between the passage and my art is the idea of photographers creating something original and unique, even in an oversaturated medium. That’s something I want to accomplish with my work; my own unique style.
