Self Portrait, Silkscreen, 2024 |
Hello everyone! I am Aileen Herrera Ojeda, and I am a junior majoring in graphic design. My artwork is pretty all over the place, and mainly about things I find cool. What motivated me the most is just to make pretty and cool designs. Even though my concentration is in graphic design, I also work in gouache, pencil, acrylic, silkscreen and oil as well as dabble in photography. I feel like I am still figuring out what I want my art to be about and how to address those topics in my art. Right now, I am very inspired the political climate of our country and would like to make artworks that comment on that. I just need to figure out how to put that in a design, making the message clear but also fit my aesthetic.
As for my graphic design process, I don't really design outside of school projects which I am trying to change since I really want to grow my portfolio and design things that interest me. But for the most part I would say I have a very distinct style and aesthetic, using bold fun colors, and playful combinations of fonts. I am very much someone who loves to heavily decorate designs!
The artist that most influences me is Kel Lauren, they make super cool designs that have this vintage aesthetic to it. Their usage of color, fonts, and images is what most drew me into their work and made me want to become a graphic designer.

“Photographs are perhaps the most mysterious of all the objects that make up, and thicken, the environment we recognize as modern. Photographs really are experience captured, and the camera is the ideal arm of consciousness in its acquisitive mood.”
I think saying that photographs are "experience captured" is such an interesting yet truthful way to describe what photos are. Because in the end photos are just stills or frozen memories. Which is super cool that we are able to capture things like that.
“Finally, the most grandiose result of the photographic enterprise is to give us the sense that we can hold the whole world in our heads -- as an anthology of images. To collect photographs is to collect the world."
Now we don't necessarily need to travel the world in order to see it or now what is happening there, we can do all that by pictures or even videos giving us a sense that we know these places without ever really being there
