1. camila salinas (camilaas.art on ig)
2. aliza nisenbaum
3. julia lee (juss_me_art on ig)
4. joan jonas
5. marcel dzama
themes artists have addressed:
1. she likes to have her stylized artwork into her realism paintings.
2. aliza’s paintings are based on family connections, and the community she works with.
3. julia doesn’t have a specific theme she goes by.
4. joan’s simple drawings, is not really what would consider a theme, but she seems to be satisfied with her drawings.
5. marcel’s collaborations with other artists.
challenges artists faced:
1. when camila starts to let go of having to copy every detail from her reference photos, using less of the her photos and being more free with her paintings.
2. having to connect with the community.
3. julia, from what i’ve seen in some of her videos, isn’t faced with a challenge.
4. joan continues to draw until she does a drawing that she actually likes. she states that ‘drawing is like practicing a piano’.
5. working/creating art alone.
inspirations that drew you to the artists:
1. an inspiration that drew me from the artist was the way she starts a new painting with a sketch. when she is in her middle of her painting, she'd sketch in a new idea, for her painting and add it into her painting. it's something that i find cool.
2. aliza’s paintings are very colorful, which is what drew me to her. as well as her realism paintings. each painting has a meaning, to her, to her friends, to the community she helps with.
3. julia’s stylized traditional and digital drawings is what made me follow her on social media. her coloring on both traditional and digital drawing were spectacular, and i admire her coloring skills. she has her own way of coloring, as well as sketching and outlining her artworks.
4. joan’s way of drawing. very simple, not rushed at all and it’s something that drew me to her. she takes her time, which i also do, so i can relate to her.
5. working with other artists, i’ve never seen painters work together in one or more paintings, which is why i was, not 100% inspired, but made me think about collaborating with other artists. it’s pretty cool.
things you’d like to incorporate into your own artwork:
1. camila’s caricature-like style along with her realism paintings. i think it's really cool to see something realistic and unrealistic at the same time, it gives the painting more creativity, instead of being just a realism painting.
2. having a connection within her paintings. aliza’s painting having a significant meaning. i’ve only painted still-lives, which is cool, but i want to paint something that’s meaningful to me, to my family.
3. juila’s coloring, is was i would like to incorporate. they’re stylized, yes, but her bright colors on her drawings make them pop to the viewers.
4. joan’s way of drawing is simplistic, she’s not rushing at all in any of her drawings, she takes her time. it’s something that i’d like to try, one of these days.
5. working with other artists, is something i would like in incorporate, as an artist. learning more of collaborations with other artists.
