Post 2 - Influences in Art Practice - Carla Herrera

 1-Who are the 5+ artists you chose?   - Anne Hamilton, Hand work (textile artist, medium (cloth speaks volume))  

Porcupine, hide work,  
Work: Textile serves as a metaphor for social connections, installation art  

Uses pinhole cameras to capture images, giving a unique approach to art making.

  • Mixture of humor and tragedy  

  • Maximalist, Imagery, unfold the meaning of his work  

  • Capturing the essence of nature 

  • His work explores the relationships that humans have with nature. 

  • Ford’s artwork is about having rich details that enhances the viewer’s experience.

- John Feodorov, Native American artist 

  • Finds spiritually in ambiguity  

  • Reflection of growing up on a reservation  

  • Blending cultural Native American and modern ideologies

- Andrea Zittel, Experimental artist 

  • Work concept came from a breeding unit she worked with animals. Developed the idea to a similar structure to have everything needed for survival.  

“Variety seemed more oppressive or restrictive than continuity” 

The artist gives her living space a meaningful existence for survival  

She emphasizes functionality in her artwork. Her work emphasizes how art is a method of interpretation to people’s experiences of the world. In example, she grew up in suburban California and after moving to New York she deeply appreciated her unique perspective from where she was upbrought.
