ARTIST STATEMENT
The art that I bring into the world is a love letter between music, Tokusatsu, comic books, and just about everything in between. Primarily creating drawings and sketches, I like to weaponize what I call ‘the very basics’- lead pencils, ink pens, fiber markers, and a good ol' sketchbook- and let myself bleed onto the page. I try to make my art as dynamic and flashy as possible, choosing to focus on depicting my characters in very stylish and action oriented poses- typically playing very loose with anatomical accuracy in order to follow my most important rule, ‘The Rule of Cool’. I take my work very seriously, but I never forget that, at the end of the day, I am allowed to have fun.
When I create my art, I do so with the purpose of bringing to people the kind of stories and characters that I grew up with to them. Growing up reading comics and manga from Jack Kirby and Hirohiko Araki, watching Godzilla movies and Kamen Rider while blasting Ramones and Green Day, I turn and twist all of these influences into my work and turn the volume all the way up. My characters and stories are usually about common people staring down the wrongs of the world and unifying to fight back against the forces that create these evils to make the world they want. With this, I hope to show people that they do not have to be afraid of being who they truly are and find self-acceptance within the world of my art.
At my core, I want to be unifying. I hope people can walk away from my work feeling like someone in the world can understand and relate to whatever they’re feeling. There’s no debate that we live in very troubled times. Maybe what we need is something that can bring us together, no matter how big or small that may be. I want my art to hopefully be that something, something that the common man can look upon and not only feel less alone, but be inspired to make the world a better place in their own unique, weird ways. I hope people see themselves in my characters and stories and see the power they have within themselves to not only change the world, but better themselves.
ARTIST BIO
Born, raised, and living in New Jersey, Evan Pierce Blumer (born February 22, 2004) grew up surrounded by comics, Tokusatsu, and punk rock. Inheriting a love for art from his grandfather, he decided to dedicate himself to becoming a great artist in order to bring the kind of stories and characters he loved when he was a child to others. His arsenal consists of pencils, pens, markers, and a sketchbook, proudly choosing to work traditionally. His work is not only about being dynamite and flowing with energy, but about outsiders just trying to find their place in the world. He’s heavily inspired from the works of Jack Kirby, Hirohiko Araki, kaiju movies and Kamen Rider, and punk music like The Ramones, Sex Pistols, and Green Day while also harnessing the energy of the Dada movement. In between Art and English classes, you can usually find him listening to music while creating his next character or story. By day, he’s Evan, college art student. But by night, he’s still Evan, college art student...and that’s how he rolls.
Your bio is clever and packs alot of your personality. I like the mention of your arsenal to talk about your materials as well as mentioning you inspirations.
