Post 10: Updated Artist Statement and Bio | Ingrid Rivera

 Artist Statement

I am a graphic designer who loves to experiment with various mediums. From digital illustration and traditional painting to woodworking and metalwork. My creative journey spans a wide range of projects, including posters, logos, cookbooks, and fine art pieces created with gouache or oil on canvas. A recurring theme in my work is the use of vibrant colors. I’m drawn to bright, expressive palettes that help me bring light and emotion into every piece I create.

I’m inspired by artists like Claude Monet and Cecily Brown. Their expressive use of color and the way they bring light into their work deeply resonates with me. Their ability to evoke emotion through color is something I strive to achieve in both my design and artwork.

My creative process often begins in my sketchbook. I like to plan carefully while still leaving room for spontaneity. I see each project as a puzzle, finding the right pieces to bring together a bigger picture. When an idea doesn’t quite work, I save it for later. This approach helps ensure each piece feels complete and balanced.

The concept of the Red String Theory, the idea that we are all connected. This influences both my perspective and my practice. I use it as a baseline; everything in my work must connect in some way. If something doesn’t fit, I either remove it or find a way to make it work. I’m especially inspired by Chiharu Shiota, whose immersive installations explore themes of connection and memory. Her work pushes me to create art that expresses a sense of unity and interconnectedness.

  1. For starters I like how without even mentioning the red string theory I can see how that influences many parts of you as an artist like your process in creating! Inspirations are definitely important for us artists and I can tell it is for you as well. I look forward to seeing future work by you that could possibly be on the theme of red string theory. That would be really cool to see from a graphic designer standpoint since there’s so many ways to go about that! Successful bio and artist statement.
