I've taken art history classes before but even though I have found art that I really enjoy I always thought that since I was a graphic designer, I couldn't gain much of inspiration from those pieces. This course has definitely changed my perspective on that. The art movement that most spoke to me was Art Nouveau. The movement was a reaction against the Victorian-era decorative art. It was inspired by Japanese art woodblock prints and drew a lot from organic forms like flowers and plants, and natural colors.
I think, the kind of organic shapes and lines as well as the feeling that you get from these natural pastel colors, a feeling of lightness and almost whimsy, is what I feel my art is. I really gravitate towards funky and whimsy designs, and I think art nouveau encompasses that. Alot of art nouveau not only art wise but even within architecture and items as well, it gives off Pixie Hollow and truly makes me want to be surrounded with this kind of art.
