Post 9- Unoffical Artist Statement and Bio- CTF

Artist Bio:

Caitlin Feeley, also known as Clay by friends, an artist that lives in Bayonne, New Jersey.

Currently Attending New Jersey City University as an Illustration Major.

Art has been their lifelong companion, deeply intertwined with Clay’s identity.

Inspired by their father’s love for comics and cartoons, it was no shock that they fell in love with

the vibrant worlds of illustration and storytelling from a young age.

Creating characters and exploring various styles became a way to express themselves and connect

with others who share that similar passion.

Artist Statement:

My work explores the intersection of the mystical and the personal.

Drawing inspiration from tarot, astrology, and the occult,

I use these symbolic systems as tools to express and reflect

on identity, relationships, and queer companionship. I’m interested in how meaning shifts-

how symbols evolve in different contexts, how stories overlap,

and how our sense of self is formed through layered experiences.

While I primarily work in digital illustration using tools like Procreate and Clip Studio Paint, I strongly connect to traditional media. I use graphite for sketching, enjoy the nostalgic quality of colored pencils and crayons, and often experiment with mixed media. I love combining watercolor or gouache with other materials to explore texture and depth. Gouache, in particular, has become a favorite for its expressive and versatile nature.

Another way my work can be seen, is as a form of visual divination- way of searching for understanding and mapping the emotional terrain of queer life.I aim to capture moments that resist linearity and easy categorization through visual layering, repetition, and symbolic storytelling. At its core, my practice is rooted in curiosity, connection, and the ongoing joy of creation.
