Introduction
My name is Corine Etienne, and I’m a junior pursuing a B.F.A in Illustration. Creating art has always been my passion, and I love exploring a variety of mediums, from charcoal and painting to digital art and animation. While I enjoy experimenting with different techniques, animation and digital art hold a special place in my heart. There’s something deeply fulfilling about bringing characters to life through movement and crafting digital illustrations that tell a story. Much of my inspiration comes from anime and animated films, which spark my creativity and fuel my imagination. Their ability to evoke emotions through visuals is something I strive to incorporate into my own work.
What I find most rewarding about making art is the sense of accomplishment when I see a finished piece come together. It’s not just about the end result, it’s about remembering the process, the effort, and the steps it took to bring that vision to life. I love reflecting on how much thought and care went into every detail and seeing how others connect with the emotions I aimed to portray. That connection, between artist and viewer, is very intriguing. Whether it’s a simple smile or a deeper emotional response, knowing my art can touch someone in that way is one of the things that keeps me motivated.
I’m also deeply inspired by other artists, especially those who share their work online. Animators on platforms like TikTok, such as “zesketches” are a huge influence on me. I admire how they use sound creatively, with their own characters to craft meaningful, detailed animations. Their ability to infuse personality and intention into every frame is incredible, and it pushes me to pay closer attention to the small details in my own work. Watching their animations reminds me why I love creating. I believe it’s about sharing ideas, and connecting with others through art.

Susan Sontag article
Two quotes from Susan Sontag's article that stand out to me are: “Photographs are a way of imprisoning reality...One can't possess reality, one can only possess images” and “To photograph is to appropriate the thing photographed.”
These quotes resonate with me because it relies on capturing, reframing, and modifying reality to create new, developed experiences. These words serve as a reminder in my artwork that, while my animations or digital compositions may begin with real-world elements such as textures, movements, or forms, they eventually transcend reality into something intangible and creative. Sontag's approach encourages me to think critically about how my work possesses reality, not to copy it, but to reinterpret it, providing viewers with a mix of the familiar and the unconventional.
