POST 4 MESSAGE/MISSON - Brittney Sanchez-Bueno

What is the meaning, idea, and message of your work?

My work focuses on capturing aesthetics and blending them with emotion. While design is often viewed as purely functional, I believe it has the power to tell stories, evoke feelings, and create meaningful connections. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of traditional design by incorporating different artistic elements and experimenting with how visuals can express emotion.

What is a problem in the world that your work helps to solve or a story it helps to tell?

One issue in the design world is the perception that design is emotionless—strictly about communication and structure rather than personal or emotional impact. My work challenges this idea by showing that design can be expressive, immersive, and even thought-provoking. By mixing different mediums, such as illustration, photography, and textures, I aim to create work that resonates on a deeper level rather than just being visually appealing.

What is important to convey in your work?

I want to show that design can be both structured and expressive. Whether it’s a poster, branding, or digital composition, I focus on balancing strong aesthetics with emotional storytelling. I also like to experiment with different mediums and techniques to push my work beyond just digital design, giving it a unique and layered feel.

How do you want your audience to feel?

I want my audience to feel engaged and connected—whether it’s through nostalgia, curiosity, or intensity. My goal is for people to not only appreciate the design itself but also to feel something from it, whether it’s a sense of familiarity, excitement, or even unease, depending on the project.

How do you imagine the work will be received?

I imagine my work being received by those who appreciate bold, expressive, and unconventional design. People who enjoy aesthetics that tell a story or evoke an emotion will likely connect with my approach. My work also appeals to those who appreciate a mix of different artistic styles and mediums, blending traditional and digital techniques in a fresh way.

What does the work accomplish?

My work breaks the notion that design is purely functional and proves that it can be artistic, emotional, and engaging. It encourages viewers to see design beyond just its purpose, allowing them to connect with visuals in a deeper way.

The RAINN billboard design reflects my mission of blending aesthetics with emotion in graphic design. By using bold typography and minimal distractions, the message is clear, urgent, and impactful. The statistic creates an emotional response, while the hotline transforms the design into a call to action. This piece challenges the idea that design is purely functional—it proves that visuals can evoke feelings, start conversations, and drive change.

This infographic design for disability awareness, fulfill this mission by using clear visuals and impactful statistics to educate and raise awareness. By presenting complex data in an engaging, easy-to-understand format, the design makes the topic more accessible and encourages empathy. The use of strong visuals helps to emphasize key points, making the information not only informative but also memorable, ultimately promoting inclusivity and understanding.

"How to Fix a Broken Heart" project, fulfill this mission by providing practical advice and emotional support through engaging visuals and content. The guide offers a structured, approachable way to understand and navigate the healing process, helping individuals cope with heartbreak. The use of clear, comforting designs paired with actionable steps makes the content both accessible and relatable, encouraging people to take control of their healing journey and emerge stronger.

As a graphic designer, I enjoy creating digital illustrations because they allow me to express more depth and emotion. The "Surrealistic Dream" project fulfills this mission by blending surreal elements with realistic details to create an immersive experience that challenges perceptions. By transforming the concept of "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" into a visual reality, the project pushes the boundaries of what's possible, inviting viewers to explore the intersection between dream and reality. Through unexpected design choices and thought-provoking visuals, this work encourages deeper reflection on how these concepts could be lived and understood in a more tangible way.

"Death" presents a striking contrast between life and death, stillness and decay. The skull, partially submerged in dark water, creates a haunting, almost cinematic atmosphere. The monochrome palette enhances the eerie mood, stripping away distractions and focusing on texture, shadow, and reflection. The water’s surface acts as a mirror, distorting the image and adding depth, while the sterile bathtub setting juxtaposes the organic nature of the skull. This piece evokes themes of mortality, solitude, and the passage of time, leaving the viewer with a sense of quiet unease.
