POST 4: Mission/Message - Ingrid Rivera

My work revolves around finding solutions or filling in the missing pieces, much like solving a puzzle. I enjoy the challenge of coming up with answers, especially when given specific guidelines or parameters. So far, most of my work has been a mix of school assignments and small personal sketches. I often blend personal themes into assignments, striking a balance between the two.

A recurring theme in my work is the red string theory, a concept not many people know or find interesting. But to me, it’s fascinating. I love reading about it and exploring the art inspired by it. This is the one theory I can always go back to and read as if it were my first time. I find beauty in the belief in fate, even though people might not share that view. Superstitions and fate are concepts I don’t question. I just follow the “rules” that were set.

Through my work, I try to evoke a feeling or emotion. I want to see a reaction, to make people pause, look, and ask questions. If someone doesn’t react, I want to understand why. I’m genuinely interested in understanding why. Being able to see my work from a different perspective is always insightful. Two people can view the same artwork and see it differently; some can react positively, and some can react negatively. I expect a mix of responses. Some will appreciate it, and others won’t. Ultimately, my work fits into two categories: finding solutions or expressing something personal. My goal is to communicate on a deeper level. The balance of curiosity and response allows the viewer and the piece to intertwine.
