Post 5- Guillermo Carrion

Q- "As soon as blackness becomes the all-important sign, audiences assume that the images are addressing victimization (Weens 79)."

R- Whenever a person of color makes an art piece, it seems like it always has to be political. Artwork is usually derived from personal struggles and perseverance. Although people may relate to it or connect it to a relative issue, the core idea may have come from the artist's own thoughts.

Q- "She wants me to tell her how to respond to the work because she assumes that the only legitimate response is guilt in the face perceived rage (Weens 79)."

R- People have their own interpretations when looking at artwork. They make their own assumptions about the meaning of the artwork and the process of how it was made. When looking at a piece that invokes a feeling of pain, rage, and suffering, there is a chance that the artist may not have been in an angry mood when making the artwork.
