Post 3 - LeSeur and Interviews- Zeyad Elshikh

What inspired LeSeur? Compare what motivates you to create meaning.

Le’Andra LeSeur finds inspiration in her identity and lived experiences. As a Black queer woman, her work deeply reflects themes of resilience, social justice, and human connection. She creates immersive experiences that challenge viewers to engage with difficult emotions and perspectives. Her work serves as both a personal reflection and a commentary on the world around her, addressing issues of race, gender, and community.

My work, while different in focus, is also rooted in personal meaning and storytelling. I am motivated by a passion for aviation, design, and branding. My creations explore the intersection of identity, history, and futurism, often blending cultural elements with modern aesthetics. Through my work, I aim to communicate narratives that bridge the past and present, creating designs that resonate with audiences visually and conceptually.

How does your choice of material, process, aesthetic, content, etc. reinforce your message?

My work heavily relies on digital design, vector graphics, and branding. The sleek, structured nature of my aesthetic reinforces my focus on precision, clarity, and storytelling. I use typography, color, and composition to evoke a sense of professionalism and depth while ensuring that my message remains visually engaging. Just as LeSeur employs light, movement, and sound to create immersive experiences, I use branding and layout to shape how audiences interact with my designs.

Is there an experience that influenced you to become an artist?

Rather than a single defining moment, my journey into art and design has been a continuous evolution. My fascination with aviation, branding, and visual storytelling has driven me to refine my craft and build a portfolio that bridges these interests.

Who was your most important teacher?

Several mentors have shaped my artistic development, but my college professors have played a crucial role in pushing my conceptual thinking and technical skills. Their guidance has helped me refine my design process and understand how to create meaningful work.

What artist has influenced you most?

I draw inspiration from designers and artists who merge storytelling with branding and visual identity. The ability to create a compelling narrative through design is something I continuously strive for in my own work.

What is your favorite artwork?

I am particularly drawn to works that merge cultural symbolism with modern design principles. Pieces that balance history with futurism resonate deeply with me, as they align with my interests in storytelling and aviation branding.

What exhibition has had the most influence on you?

Exhibitions that explore immersive experiences, branding, and storytelling have had the most impact on my work. Seeing how design can transform a space and engage audiences has influenced my approach to creating compelling visual narratives.

What is your favorite museum?

I appreciate museums that highlight innovation in design, architecture, and aviation. These spaces provide inspiration for how storytelling, aesthetics, and functionality intersect in the real world.

What book has influenced you the most?

Books that analyze branding, design theory, and aviation history have significantly shaped my perspective on how visual identity is constructed and perceived. Understanding the psychology behind design choices has refined my approach to creating meaningful work.

What other creative fields/disciplines influence you?

Aside from graphic design, I am influenced by architecture, aviation, and industrial design. The way form and function intersect in these fields informs my approach to branding and layout.

Have you ever made a choice that was influenced by someone's critique or feedback?

Absolutely. Feedback from peers, professors, and clients is invaluable in refining my work. Constructive criticism helps me see my designs from different perspectives and improve my approach to storytelling and branding.

What advice would you give to an aspiring artist?

Stay curious and open to learning. Developing a unique voice takes time, and experimentation is key. Surround yourself with inspiring work and be open to feedback. Every critique is an opportunity to grow. Also, balancing passion with practical experience is essential, especially in a field as dynamic as design.
