Post 10- Artist Statement and short Bio

Artist Bio

I am Francis Troy, an artist based in Bayonne, New Jersey. I was born in Yonkers, New York. I am predominantly an illustrator, animator, and actor. I am a graduate from New Jersey City University's BFA Illustration program. I make digital illustrations, paintings, and digital Animations. Artwork that influences my practice is the art and stylistic choices from works and artists such as author Hiromu Arakawa- Full Metal Alchemist, Artwork from online artist Arin Hanson- Egoraptor- and Ross O'Donovan, Rubber Ross, and last but not least Sonic Adventure artist- Yuji Uekawa. These artists have inspired me stylistically in how they convey their art, storytelling, and sense of balance in humor and tackling more difficult themes. The things that motivate my creative process is thoughts and scenarios that can be used to represent and to evoke themes of human struggle, camaraderie, hardship, and personal growth. My artwork tends to be surreal and representative, and working to evoke a sense of ephemeral atmosphere.

Artist statement

Art is something that most, if not all, people can find that holds something that relates to themselves or their lives. It drives introspection, pondering, and can even induce a sensible chuckle. Art and animation have always enamored me. The ability to create a story through images or moving pictures is phenomenal. You can share experiences, concepts, and philosophies through one’s art. Many anime, artists, comics, and animations throughout television and the internet have given me the drive to pursue my own way of sharing art and thoughts through the visual medium. I love animation. Most of my artistic endeavors are to further myself in the animation field so that I may illustrate my ideas in more defined and creative ways. Sharing a laugh through the craft helps as well. There are so many vibrant people in not only the field, but also this world. I believe that any type of art, whether artistically, musically, or through architecture, one can share their feelings, thoughts, and dreams. Animation is a way to encompass many of these aforementioned things while conveying a message and creating an identity. I wish to follow that path to share mine and the experiences of those who are close to me through my animation, so that I can share more than can ever be illustrated simply by words.

Being my main inspiration, I tend to work with animation, along with surreal, abstract, and representational art.  My background stems from growing up in various cities in towns across North Jersey, the New York boroughs, and parts of Connecticut. Growing up in various urban environments, I believe, has helped to develop my sense of art and self, and how much a small cog in the machine, such as myself, can really make a name and space for themselves, despite being among so much noise and similar backgrounds. My animation tends to be done digitally, via the usage of a digital tablet and pen. The programs I tend to use are Adobe Photoshop, Animate, Premiere, and occasionally Adobe Illustrator. Those programs allow me to draw, animate, edit sound effects, timing, and record and add voice acting. I work to increase my skills in rendering via several techniques involving figure drawing, oil painting, and drawing from observation. I hope that continuing to practice my art and animation can not only help me to be more proficient in spreading my message and sharing my work, but I can combine different mediums that I practice with digital or other styles of animation to achieve something that wouldn't be able to be done strictly digitally. I hope that any incoming work will make apparent how my work evolves and changes as I combine all that I have learned.
