I am an experimental artist working with a variety of mediums, including oil paint, acrylics, colored pencil and digital media. My artwork explores abstract, symbolic and literal ideas that invite viewers to a more intuitive and personal interpretation.
Influenced by artists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Wagner and Arca, I use different types of mediums as a transparent tool to what my current interests are. I often switch from traditional and digital forms of mediums to create a more dynamic and creative form of art.
Lately, my work has been focused on mixed media. Serving as a reflection of past and current conversations with myself. These types of pieces explore different versions of myself that continue to evolve. I enjoy creating works that distort the meaning of the ideas or experiences we may have.
Artist Bio:
Carla Herrera is a New Jersey based experimental artist that associates her work with different mediums. To explore her creativity, she allows the art process to guide her rather than using only one medium or technique. Her work explores reality, emotions and elements of her current interests. Much of her work is centered around this uncomfortable feeling of intimacy and isolation. Born in Ecuador and raised in New Jersey, she has always felt this tension of feelings that are unexplainable in one way. Her artwork serves as a mirror of her experiences with these feelings. Feeling emotionally connected to her work; she likes to create a connection with her audience.
