How does Hopinks use his medium of choice? What inspired him to use video?
Hopkins uses video as a choice of medium. Collectively using audio recordings and fragmented video material, he’s able to investigate themes of identity, language, mythology, etc. that may resemble a form of collage. What inspired him to use videos was because of how he had to approach language and learning Chinuk Wawa. That gave him the perspective to approach video as a conceptional.
What material/medium/process do you use and how? What inspired you to make your work that way?
I primarily use oil paints and tend to start out pretty thin especially if I’m painting skin because I like to build the layers. What inspired my process is the fact that I like the slow process and possibility when working with paint. I like to take my time, being able to step and walk away to reflect then coming back gives a new perspective.
