POST 9 - ARTIST STATEMENT AND BIO - THAITIANA DOZIER

Artist Statement

I’m a digital illustrator drawn to storytelling through character, mood, and myth. My work lives at the intersection of fantasy, sci-fi, and folklore—worlds shaped by emotion, transformation, and the quiet moments between action. I create original characters and narrative scenes that feel like fragments of a larger story, inviting viewers into unfamiliar spaces that reflect deeply human experiences. Many of my pieces begin with a feeling, a piece of music, or a conversation—something small that sparks a larger narrative.

I’m excited by the possibility of creating fantasy that mirrors our own world. My work isn’t just about escape—it’s about reflection. Through emotional, psychological, or symbolic layers, I aim to spark connection and recognition in the viewer. Even when the imagery is whimsical or surreal, I want it to feel raw and real. There’s often a tension in my work between wonder and darkness—those haunting, inexplicable moments that force us to face the parts of ourselves we often keep hidden.

My influences are rooted in the media that shaped me: the emotional evocation of music, the lush storytelling of RPGs, the drama of animation, and the emotional weight of comics. Artists like Kentaro Miura, Yoshitaka Amano, and Naudline Pierre have deeply influenced both my visual language and the way I think about narrative—dreamlike, bold, and immersive.

At the heart of my process is story. I often begin by writing or sketching loosely from emotion. I rarely use linework, choosing instead to dive directly into color blocking to establish mood and flow. Every choice—from palette to composition—is a reflection of what I want the viewer to feel. I hope my work offers a moment of stillness, a sense of recognition, or the thrill of stepping into the middle of a much larger tale. I’m always chasing that spark of wonder that first drew me in—and I hope to pass it on.
