LeSeur Interview

  • What inspired LeSeur? Compare what motivates you to create meaning.
  • How does your choice of material, process, aesthetic, content, etc. reinforce your message?

LeSeur was inspired by the language of the body which has made her explore different mediums. She said she uses color as an entry for the viewer to her artwork but after that, she kind of leaves the interpretation of it to the viewer´s imagination. She claims to struggle with the gaze and that there could be a lot of violence in how we look at how that look informs perception, and how that perception challenges our own understanding of self as the person being gazed upon.  Even though the work she did in 2017 reflected her grief about those murders she realized it perpetuated viewers to feel what she felt. So, after that, she did a project that makes space for good things that come between grief. I really like how she cares about how the intention of her work could be well viewed or not and how could affect viewers.

I feel like giving my artwork meaning comes along with what the process carries, almost like something that comes from how the artwork makes me feel and what I intend others to feel when they look at it. So, I find my motivation in my mood and the things that are going on in my life. The sources that give me my artwork kind of start making sense while I'm lying down. I've had a creative process when I find myself about to fall asleep and a random idea goes to my mind I kind of start designing in my head, and when the next day comes, I sit down and start remembering everything I thought of while almost falling asleep. It is almost like my body finds creativity in relaxation.
