Le’Andra LeSeur finds inspiration in memory, identity, and ritual. Her work uses light, sound, and the body to explore Blackness, queerness, and spirituality in immersive ways.
I connect with her focus on identity and storytelling, but I express these themes through fantasy, gothic aesthetics, and the surreal. I use color and character design to challenge traditional ideas about gender and sexuality, similar to how LeSeur uses performance and media to question visibility and belonging.
My materials, graphic design, illustration, and print, allow me to shape narratives that might otherwise be overlooked. The influence of artists like Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshitaka Amano on my work reflects a desire to craft intricate, immersive worlds, much like how LeSeur constructs emotional and sensory experiences. Books are essential to my process, not just as sources of inspiration but as a means of storytelling.
Both LeSeur and I push against restrictive norms, creating spaces where identity and self-expression can thrive. While she layers light and movement, I use visual storytelling to explore the strange and sometimes eerie aspects of gender and selfhood.
