Message/Mission
Right now, my work and career as an artist is at a pivotal point. I’ve been making work for the sake of “making things pretty or cool”, that’s just how I’ve always looked at graphic design and never thought of making anything with deeper meaning. With the recent political state of the country (and world) I've felt more inspired than ever before to make artwork touching on certain topics, I just haven't had the time to make said works. What has most inspired me is the impact and fear that has hit the Latino community with the recent election, as well as the rights of women being taken away, these are all topics that really frustrate me, making me really want to talk and put my perspective on it.
Something that I can speak a lot about is my aesthetic and style of my works so far. Since I started graphic design, I've been heavily inspired by the 80's, anything from the 70s to 2000s when it comes to the music, culture, and especially the graphic design inspires me. I'm not super sure if that's telling in my work, that I am inspired by that, but I definitely think it gives off some type of vintage feel. My work also features fun colors and bold fonts, and rarely is simple, I am a big fan of very decorative designs. At the beginning of my graphic design career, I was heavily inspired by Kel Lauren and their designs as well as their activism side of designs. A lot of my aesthetic and style is derived from theirs as well as other designers I see on Pinterest, Instagram or TikTok.

This is one of my all-time favorite designs I have ever made. I made it 2 years and even now, after learning so much more about graphic design I am at awe at what I created. I have never watched this movie or read the book, but I had a general idea of the plot and wanted to create a moody version, especially since there are so many good pictures that Sofia Coppola took. I also wanted to incorporate that sort of childhood or youth through the font (my handwriting) and the yellow flower at the top, and darker times through my color usage and picture selection.

Along the same lines of the first poster, I made this one because I thought the original poster that Netflix made for this movie just looked too happy. I never watched the movie but read the book and to me the poster needed a more nostalgic and sad feeling to it, so I did that with the photo I used as well as the dull colors and simple composition.

And lastly in this movie poster series is actually the first poster I made. I'm not a fan of the original with the lime green brick wall so I decided to use the iconic scene of Emma Watson outside of the car as well of the iconic quote, "we accept the love we think we deserve". I definitely think I could improve on this design in certain aspects but overall, I really like it.
