The message behind my work
- My work consists of and is primarily women-centered. The reason behind it is that I'm tired of media that only focus on the male audience, with a male protagonist and female lead who's there only to feed the sexual desires of the viewers or whose only purpose is to benefit the male characters. Growing up, I wanted to watch powerful female characters, being the strong leads, just like male-centered shows. But that's rarely shown in shows, comics, and movies. Every time the lead is a woman, the main plot is about finding a husband or boyfriend and having a family. My work is a way to heal that part of me that had every feminine interest I had as a kid, which was ridiculed and heavily criticized. When I was a child, it was very popular and familiar to hate girls who loved the color pink, love dresses, and makeup. It was one thing when men were the ones criticizing, but it hurt more when it was another woman. I want my work to entail women's issues and women's rights. After many years of progress, women's rights are constantly being taken away, violence towards women is growing more, and misogyny is rampant.
- I want to convey in my work that women are just as capable, and this shouldn't be debated. We have seen powerful women in our day-to-day lives: mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, etc… Yet, people still can't respect or understand women's issues. I want my audience to feel in touch with their femininity, men and women, and that femininity isn't something to be ashamed about or something that's sexual. I know my work will receive mixed reactions; there will be those who will feel empowered to be in touch with their femininity, those who will perceive it as misandry, and those who will oversexualize my work. My work would accomplish healing those who have an unhealthy relationship with the feminine side and can feel vindicated for dressing femininely, wearing makeup, and loving the color pink again.
