POST 8: ART HISTORY | INGRID RIVERA

Two art movements from art/design history that are most akin to are Impressionism and the Bauhaus. Both are very different, one from 19th-century France and the other from early 20th-century Germany. I’m drawn to Impressionism for the emphasis on capturing fleeting moments using light and color. Especially the light, expressive brushwork. One of my favorite artworks is from this period, Woman with a Parasol by Claude Monet. As well as the Garden at Sainte-Adresse. I enjoy how Claude Monet was able to capture these moments and the choices of color he used. On the other hand, the Bauhaus movement also interests me. The meaning behind Bauhaus is the idea of unifying art, craft, and technology. The Bauhaus movement prioritizes structure, form, and function. The Bauhaus movement sought out clarity and simplicity.

My Artwork:

In this piece, I used light brushstrokes and focused on color matching and then brightening all the colors. I wanted to brighten the color palette to give the work more color and life rather than it being dull or muddy.

For this piece, I did a recipe for my favorite salad. I focused on simplicity and having it easy to read.
